BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham’s fire chief says the fireworks ban will be a good thing for the city.
Roger Christensen thinks the success of the ban will depend on the city’s efforts to enforce it.
Christensen says while he enjoyed fireworks as a kid, he’s glad his department will now be able to focus on more important fire emergencies during the Fourth of July holiday.
The ban on fireworks approved by the Belllingham City Council earlier this week, includes all firecrackers, sparklers and bottle rockets.
Christensen says ‘pop-its’ and ‘snakes’ are still allowed.
The ban does not start until June 2014.
