Fishermen caught in crab ring scheme

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Sixteen commercial fishermen, two wholesale fish companies and ten retail establishments have been busted.

Investigators say they were dealing undocumented and undersized crab from Whatcom County.

KING 5 reports the ring sold the crab through the back doors of businesses that included some restaurants and nail salons.

Washington State Fish and Wildlife Deputy Chief Mike Cenci says his agency and Lummi Tribal Police found crab taken before it was mature enough to spawn.

People were arrested in Whatcom, Snohomish, and King counties.
