WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Four people have been hospitalized following a crash in Whatcom County late Saturday night.

According to the Washington State Patrol, 22-year-old Joseph Gartrell was driving northbound on Noon Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign at East Smith Road.

His car slammed into a Chevy Trailblazer with four people inside.

Gartrell and three of the people in the trailblazer were injured and had to be taken to Saint Joseph Hospital.

Troopers say Gartrell was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

He’ll face vehicular assault charges when he is released from the hospital.
