Free events ring in the New Year

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – People can ring in the New Year with a swim, either in a nice indoor pool or outside in a cold lake or bay.

People can swim for free tonight from 6:45 to 9:00 at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center in Bellingham.

Tomorrow at noon, at Lake Padden and Birch Bay, people are invited to take the plunge.

The Birch Bay event begins with registration at 9:00 in the morning, followed by costume judging at 11:30.

Tonight, the annual Birch Bay Ring of Fire and Hope is at 7:00 p.m.

KGMI’s host of Radio Real Estate, Mike Kent helped create the event.

People can pick flares up at the Birch Bay visitor’s center.

Also tonight, the City of Bellingham is hosting a free family fun night at the Sportsplex from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

You can enjoy free ice skating, horse-drawn trolley rides, an obstacle course, jumpy toys, a rock wall and soccer.
