General election ballots being mailed today

METRO, KGMI News Reporting

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Ballots for the November 5 general election are being mailed out today across Washington.

Local voters will decide on four Whatcom County Council races and two seats on the Port of Bellingham.

Voters in the Bellingham School District are being asked to okay a bond measure to rebuild Sehome High School along with several other schools and make improvements to other infrastructure.

Voters statewide will decide whether to approve two ballot initiatives.

I-517 is designed to protect petition organizers and signature-gatherers for state initiatives, and to extend the time allowed to gather signatures.

Initiative 522 would require labels on food made with genetically-modified ingredients.
