OLYMPIA, Wash. – A conservative think tank wants Washington to change the vote by mail deadline.
Jason Mercier with the Washington Policy Center says the state should do away with the postmark by 8:00 p.m. deadline.
He says Oregon has had 15 years of success with a vote by mail system where ballots must be received by Election Day.
A study by the center found that despite Oregon having a stricter deadline, it has consistently higher voter turnout than Washington. Oregon also has lower numbers of late ballot returns.
