WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Whatcom County home sales are at their highest level in six years with second-quarter home sales rising almost 19 percent.
Local realtors have sold 656 homes, the most since 2007.
Lylene Johnson with the Muljat Group says most of the home buyers are locals.
She says there is some influx of people moving here from Canada, Seattle, California, Denver and other places, but not as much as previous years.
Home prices remain on a slow, but steady upward trend.
The median price of homes sold in Whatcom County has risen almost 2 percent to $265,000.
Johnson says many buyers are entering the market because mortgage interest rates have started to climb.
