Ibanez officially gets his wings

Anaheim,  CA  (SportsNetwork.com) – The Los  Angeles Angels of Anaheim made it official on Friday and announced the  signing of  Raul  Ibanez  to a  one-year contract.

CBS  Sports had  reported the  deal  to be  worth $2.75  million and  included incentives that could bump the total value to $5 million.

The  41-year-old Ibanez  had  a tremendous  first half  last  season with  the Seattle Mariners, batting .267 with 24 homers and 56 RBI. Those numbers took a severe dip after the All-Star break (.203/5/9).

Ibanez is best viewed as a designated hitter, but can still play left field or first base if necessary.

A  career .276 hitter, Ibanez has registered 300 homers, 416 doubles and 1,181 RBI in 18 seasons.
