OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee is directing the Washington State Department of Health to update its process for approving changes in hospital ownership and delivery of care.
The “Seattle Times” says Inslee has responded to a complaint by the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, saying he’s concerned that changes in control of a hospital could affect access to and quality of health services, as well as cost containment.
The ACLU says the potential exists for reduction in health services because of affiliations with religion based healthcare systems.
Inslee says his office hasn’t yet identified any situations in which people have been denied access as a result of mergers and affiliations.
