OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee has signed a Mount Vernon Representative’s aerospace bill that will help keep and create jobs in Skagit and Whatcom County.

Democrat Jeff Morris says the bill extends the charter for the Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation.

The program has helped more than 1,200 businesses hire people in northwest Washington.

With Boeing moving some of its production to South Carolina, Morris says the program is key to helping local students be competitive in the aerospace industry.

The program, run by the University of Washington and Washington State University, is now funded through 2021.
