OLYMPIA, Wash. – Obamacare means more people will be using Medicaid as their health care coverage.
What they may not know is that when they die, the state can take money from their estates to refund the costs.
It’s in the fine print, but it may not be there for long.
The Seattle Times reports that Governor Jay Inslee’s office is drafting an emergency rule to limit the amount of money that can be taken from estates.
The hope is to have the rule change in place before coverage begins on January 1.
The state would lose about $3 million a year under the new rule.
