OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee says more money needs to go to prisons and schools.
Inslee’s supplemental budget for next year has about 200 million dollars more in spending for those types of things.
The state isn’t facing a budget shortfall in 2014, but Inslee says things will get tight in 2015.
The governor’s budget office has estimated that court ordered changes in education funding alone will cost about $5 billion.
Inslee wants to close tax loopholes to increase revenue.
