LYNDEN, Wash. – New weight restrictions are being put on a bridge on West Badger Road after a recent inspection of the bridge revealed structural damage.

Starting immediately, trucks going over the Bertrand Creek Bridge on West Badger just east of Axling Road will be restricted to a maximum load of 25 tons.

James Lee with the Whatcom County Public Works Department says the bridge has a crushed pile cap below the road deck.

He says they hope to have a repair plan within the next couple of weeks.

Lee says the damage was discovered during a routine inspection last week, so they don’t know if it was caused by a specific incident or by wear and tear.
