Investigation of I-5 bridge collapse continues

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The “Everett Herald” reports the Washington State Department of Transportation is prepared to seek compensation from a Canadian trucking firm to repair the I-5 bridge over the Skagit River.

State officials won’t attempt to recover damages from Mullen Tucking Company unless the National Transportation Safety Board finds the company was negligent.

A semi truck carrying an oversize load smacked into several overhead beams as it crossed the I-5 bridge on May 23, sending a section of the bridge and three vehicles into the river.

There’s no word on how long the NTSB investigation may take.
