OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington State added jobs for the eleventh straight month in August, but the estimated unemployment rate went up slightly.
Sheryl Hutchison with the state Employment Security Department says the uptick in the jobless rate is due to a small decrease in the total labor force combined with an increase in the number of unemployed who are actively looking for work.
The statewide jobless rate was 7 percent in August, up one-tenth of a percent from July.
Hutchison says that small of an increase is within the margin of error.
Industries that saw the biggest job gains in August were K-12 education and retail trade.
The manufacturing industry in Washington saw the most job losses.
