BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The ‘Great Shakeout’ earthquake drill is being held today all over the world at 10:17 a.m in each time zone, including Bellingham.

Stacy Rice with the Mount Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross says they encourage everyone to participate, even if it’s just to practice the ‘stop, drop and hold’ method.

Local schools and organizations are holding drills, including Western Washington University.

Shortly after the drill, Western will test its outdoor beacon and emergency alert text and email messaging.

The Red Cross has a downloadable earthquake application that can help people make emergency supply checklists, set up social media alerts and find open Red Cross shelters.
