BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A couple of local pilots are preparing for a test flight to recreate the secret flight pattern of American war planes to the Soviet Union during World War II.

Pilot Jeff Geer with the BRAVO 369 Flight Foundation will be flying a 70-year-old T-6 Texan war plane from Great Falls, Montana to Fairbanks, Alaska.

The U.S. started the secret route after the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union in June of 1941.

Germany destroyed most of the Soviet’s war planes.

Between 1942 and 1945, American pilots secretly flew nearly 8,000 war planes to Fairbanks so that Soviet pilots could continue to fight the Germans.

The flight will be filmed for the upcoming documentary “Warplanes to Siberia.”
