Local police departments take back drugs

LYNDEN, Wash. – At least two local police departments will be collecting unwanted drugs as part of a DEA Drug Take Back event this Saturday.

Lynden Police Deputy Chief John Billester says prescription drugs that sit in medicine cabinets create a public health and safety concern because they can be easily taken and misused by friends or family members.

He says old drugs are also an environmental concern when they are dumped down the toilet or sink because they get into the water system.

People can drop off any unwanted drugs, even illegal drugs, with no questions asked.

People can find the nearest collection site by visiting www.dea.gov and clicking on the “got drugs?” icon.

Lynden and Lummi police are signed up to have collection sites.
