Bella Hoyos from Bellingham High School has been named Northwest Conference Tennis Player of the Year. Hoyos took third place in the state tournament. She’ll play at Whitworth University in Spokane next year.

Whatcom County had three high school baseball players nominated for the Class 1A and B all-state games coming out of last night’s feeder games at Joe Martin Field. Jeremy Brockman and Chad Richter from Meridian and Matt Vogee of Blaine were nominated. All-state finalists will be announced next week.

The Bellingham Post 7 Legion baseball team won its season opener yesterday beating White Rock 6-2. Bellingham hosts Skagit for a doubleheader tomorrow.

Former Bellingham High School defensive back J.T. Fitzgerald has signed with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. Fitzgerald played his college ball at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.

Former Sehome High School baseball star Kai Hatch has been named first-team all-conference at Utah Valley University. The senior shortstop hit .323 with 35 RBI’s this season.

Whatcom County golf pro Jeff Coston won the Washington Senior Open in Sequim yesterday. Coston finished at 10-under-par to win the event for the seventh time in his career.
