Local Red Cross ready to help tornado victims

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Mount Baker chapter of the American Red Cross is ready to help in the Oklahoma tornado disaster relief.

Chapter spokeswoman Stacy Rice says they are waiting to hear the “big picture plan” from the National Red Cross.

Rice says communications are still spotty in the area, so people can use the Red Cross’s “Safe and Well” list on their website or their free Red Cross phone app to connect with loved ones to make sure they are okay.

She expects this will be an incredibly expensive disaster response effort, so she encourages anyone who wants to help to donate on the Red Cross website.

You can also donate $10.00 by texting “red cross” to 9-0-9-9-9.
