Local unemployment down sharply in April

Preliminary figures from the state Employment Security Department show Whatcom County had an unemployment rate of 6.9% in April.
That was a sizable drop from the revised rate of 7.7% we saw in March.
It was also lower than the 7.2% local rate we had in April 2012.
