Local veterans honored and remembered

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Today is Veterans Day, and local veterans’ organizations are holding events to honor those who have served in America’s armed forces.

The American Legion Post 7 is holding a big Veterans Day celebration at the Bellingham City Hall starting at 11:00 a.m.

Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Couchman will be the keynote speaker at that event.

Post Commander Rick Succee says it will feature the Post 7 Honor Guard, the Bellingham High School Alumni Band and the Bellingham Pipe Band.

Car and motorcycle enthusiasts will be gathering at Cedars Restaurant & Lounge on Main Street in Ferndale for a remembrance rally.

Around 10:00 a.m. they’ll ride to the Ferndale American Legion Hall on Second Avenue, where a short program will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Military contractor Brian Urban will be the guest speaker, and the Ferndale Police Department and Whatcom County Fire District 7 will be honored at that event.
