SEATTLE, Wash. – U.S. Ambassador and former governor of Washington Gary Locke says he’ll step down early next year.
Locke, who has served as U.S. ambassador to China since August 2011, says he plans to rejoin his family in Seattle.
He says he’s “profoundly grateful to President Obama” for the opportunity to represent the U.S. in Beijing.
Locke served as Washington’s governor from 1997 to 2005 and was Obama’s commerce secretary before being appointed ambassador to China.
