The Lynden Lions used two first half touchdowns to power past the Kings Knights, 14-6, Saturday at the Emerald City Kickoff Classic at Husky Stadium.
The Lions, normally known for their high powered offense, forced the Knights to turn the ball over on downs three times in the red zone. Lynden allowed Kings only touchdown with six seconds left in the game.
Lucas Petersen threw for 170 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Peterson finished 11-21 in his first career start at quarterback.
Star wide receiver Jalani Phelps caught four passes for 39 yards and caught one touchdown. Starting running back Trent Postma finished with 76 yards on eleven carries with one touchdown.
Lynden returns to action next Friday against the Anacortes Seahawks at Lynden High School. The Seahawks are 1-0, defeating Friday Harbor 20-19 on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
