Man arrested in death of Seattle soccer-ball dribbler

NEWPORT, Ore. – An Oregon man is facing a charge of criminally-negligent homicide in the death of a Seattle man who was dribbling a soccer ball to the World Cup match in Brazil.

Richard Swanson was struck and killed by a car while walking south along the shoulder of U.S. Highway 101 in Lincoln County, Oregon, on May 14.

The driver, 52-year-old Scott Van Hiatt of Neskowin, Oregon, was arrested yesterday.

His bail has been set at $50,000.
