BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man faces charges of luring and kidnapping after police say he took a five-year-old girl from her mother’s workplace.
Lieutenant Rick Sucee says the girl was taken from the flea market in downtown Bellingham Saturday afternoon.
As officers rushed to the scene, the suspect returned to the business with the girl in his car. She was unharmed.
Officers arrested 35-year-old Matthew Pemberton, who told them he offered the girl a ride to a park, but returned because he forgot his cell phone.
Sucee says Pemberton was in jail less than 24-hours before he was let out on bail.
Pemberton is expected to be free at least until his arraignment Friday morning at Whatcom County Superior Court.
