The Seattle Mariners have claimed outfielder Travis Weatherspoon off waivers from the L.A. Angels. Seattle G.M. Jack Zduriencik made the announcement Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Weatherspoon spent last season at double-A Arkansas. He hit .214 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI’s in 129 games. Weatherspoon had 30 steals for Arkansas and has 140 in his minor league career.
To make room on the Major League 40-man roster, catcher Henry Blanco was designated for assignment. Blanco hit .125 with 3 home runs and 14 RBI’s in 35 games for Seattle this past season.
