(Seattle, WA) — The Mariners traded outfielder Eric Thames to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday in exchange for minor league infielder Ty Kelly. Thames hit .295 with seven homers and 33 RBI in 57 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season. Kelly will report to Tacoma. The 24-year-old hit .283 with one homer and 47 RBI in 72 games at Double-A Bowie this year.
The Mariners begin a six-game road trip tomorrow night in Texas against the Rangers. The teams will play three games before Seattle heads to Cincinnati for three contests with the Reds.
Joe Saunders gets the start tomorrow. He is 5-and-8 with a 4.98 ERA in 16 starts this season. The Rangers will counter with Justin Grimm, who is 7-and-5 with a 5.56 ERA.
