Chuckanut landslide smashes passing car

KGMI News Reporting

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A landslide last night on Chuckanut Drive damaged a passing vehicle and closed the roadway briefly.

The slide happened around 7:00 p.m. several miles south of Bellingham, near the Oyster Creek Inn.

A Seattle-area man was southbound on Chuckanut and said a boulder fell on his car, leaving it with significant damage.

Scott Ruf said he was uninjured, but shaken up. He had been visiting family in the area, and was on his way home when the slide hit his car.

The Washington State Patrol responded to the scene.

The roadway was reopened within 45 minutes.
