BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham School District is receiving $2.7 million from the state to help build a brand new Birchwood Elementary School.
Superintendent Dr. Greg Baker says the new building is set to be opened in the fall of 2014.
The old building will be completely torn down and a new modernized building will be built from the ground up.
The legislature and the governor signed off on the release of more than $185 million in capital construction money earlier this month.
The money will go to 16 districts toward the remodel of 21 schools.
