OLYMPIA, Wash. – Among the new laws that took effect yesterday in Washington are changes in penalties for boating under the influence.
BUI is now considered a gross misdemeanor, and fines have risen from $1000 to $5000.
Also, boaters who are asked by a marine deputy to take a breathalyzer test and refuse are subject to being ticketed with a $1000 civil penalty.
