BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Center Austin Bragg had a team-high 24 points, and freshman forwards Jeffery Parkerand and Joey Schreiber combined for 37 points on 8-of-14 3-point shooting as Western Washington University defeated Saint Martin’s University, 87-75, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
The Vikings, ranked No.5 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in GNAC play.
Parker came off the bench to score 20 points and grab a game-high eight rebounds and Schreiber had 17 points as WWU extended its school-record home winning streak to 33 and conference home winning streak to 18.
Bragg, who hit his first seven shots from the field, finished 8-of-11, including 3-of-4 on 3-pointers, and also added five rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Forward Colby Mitchell had 10 points, and guard Richard Woodworth had nine points and eight assists.
Both Parker and Schreiber were 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
WWU’s last loss at Carver Gym was to Western Oregon, 83-73, on Jan. 7, 2012.
The Vikings close out their season-opening stretch of eight home games by playing host to Multnomah OR on Saturday, Dec. 14 (7 p.m.) and Thompson Rivers BC on Tuesday, Dec. 17 (7 p.m.).
