BLAINE, Wash. – The U.S. Border Patrol has removed the Blaine sector chief from his post and is not explaining why.

Officials announced Tuesday that Agent John Bates has been temporarily reassigned to the patrol’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Blaine Deputy Chief Henry Rolon will take over until further notice.

Bates started with the patrol in 1985 and has run the sector for western Washington, Alaska and Oregon since 2007.
