COUPEVILLE, Wash. – Jet noise is returning to Whidbey Island next week as the Navy resumes practice flights at an airfield near Coupeville.

Locals had complained about the noise in a lawsuit, but Mike Welding with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island says aircraft carrier pilots need to practice take-offs and landings there.

The Navy plans to do 6,120 practice flights this year.
