Nurses reach contract agreement

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The nurses at PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center have a new labor contract that includes modest wage increases and no cuts to sick leave benefits.

The local nurses, who are represented by the Washington State Nurses Association, have been without a contract since the end of last year.

The new contract includes a 2.5 percent across-the-board wage increase, retroactive to January 1.

It also keeps the nurses’ paid time off and sick leave benefits intact.

Many supporters of the nurses put up signs in their yards and at local businesses.

A union representative put on their blog that the signs can now come down.
