Oil tanker companies and oil spill response teams are testing how well they can react to a spill in Washington waters today.
They’ll deploy oil-skimming vessels, response boats and oil barrier booms at the site of a simulated tanker collision and oil spill near Rosario Strait.
No oil will actually be spilled during the exercise.
BP Shipping is leading the test with four other tanker companies and the Marine Spill Response Corporation also taking part.
The state Department of Ecology will observe and evaluate the response.
