Tacoma Rainiers left-hander James Paxton has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 17-23. The league office made the announcement Monday.
Paxton started two games for the Rainiers combining to go 1-0 and striking out 16 batters through 12 innings. He limited Sacramento to one unearned run on four hits and fanned five in a win on the road, June 17. In his next outing, Paxton struck out a season-high 11 batters over six shutout innings at home against Fresno on June 22.
Paxton is now 4-and-5 with a 4.75 ERA over 15 starts at Tacoma in his first Triple-A season. He is tied for seventh in the league with 76 strikeouts.
Paxton is the fourth Rainiers player to receive a weekly league award this season and the third to nab Pitcher of the Week honors. Right-handers Andrew Carraway, Jeremy Bonderman and infielder Nick Franklin were each recognized by the PCL earlier this year.
