BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The new, expanded collaboration between PeaceHealth and UW Medicine should benefit local patients who need complex treatments.
Nancy Steiger with PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham says they used to refer patients with complex problems to several different organizations.
She says by working closely with one organization, they can create streamlined services that make it easier for those patients to get the care they need and return home.
The kinds of specialized care that are not available in Bellingham include very rare cancer treatments, transplants, and complex trauma cases.
Steiger says PeaceHealth will not require patients or physicians to get care only at UW Medicine.
She says all hospitals need to find ways to drive costs down while improving the quality of their care.
