Police arrest fifth rioter

METRO, KGMI News Reporting

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Bellingham Police say they’ve arrested a fifth person suspected of participating in a riot near the Western Washington University campus.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Sherod Niles McClay Wednesday.

He faces a charge of rioting and other offences.

His brother, Korey McClay, is among the four others already arrested in the riot.

Officials say the October 12 riot, which caused thousands of dollars in property damage near Laurel Park, began after police broke up a loud party at an apartment complex nearby.

Police say some of the hundreds who gathered in the streets threw bottles, cans, and other objects at officers, who used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

Police have provided photos of 11 others who took part in the riot and say they’ve identified most of them.

They’re still asking for information from the public as their investigation continues.
