Police have names in fire homicide investigation

FERNDALE, Wash. – Ferndale Police say they have names of people they believe are involved in the fire that killed a woman on New Year’s Day.

Lieutenant Bill Hatchett says that interviews with family members and friends of the victim 23-year-old Mindy Rhoads and others that have come forward are leading them in the right direction.

He says they still can’t say how the fire was started, but the fire marshal confirms it was started deliberately.

The fire broke out late January 1 in a home on Rural Avenue.

Firefighters discovered Rhoads’ body after the fire was put out.

Hatchett says they still don’t know why she was there at the time of the fire.
