WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A new report will help Whatcom County planners figure out where new people will live and work over the next two decades.
The county is required to update its comprehensive plan with new population estimates for each of its urban growth areas by 2016.
Whatcom County Senior Planner Gary Davis says the county needs to make sure that cities and towns are prepared for the next 20 years of population growth.
The report projects population and employment growth for each urban area based on historic trends.
Planners will be working with each urban area to see if past growth trends should be continued into the future.
The Whatcom County Planning Commission will hold a town hall meeting over the growth projections on September 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Whatcom County Courthouse.
