Port works to keep commerce moving after bridge collapse

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Port of Bellingham is working with local businesses and shipping companies to figure out how to keep container traffic flowing through Whatcom County after the Skagit River bridge collapse.

Director Rob Fix says they want to move more containers away from the usual I5 route.

The port has also talked with Amtrak and Alaska Airlines about possibly adding more flights and train runs to and from Bellingham.

Fix says it is a waiting game to see how bad the delays get on I5 for commuter and freight traffic.
