WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Initial primary results are in and Roxanne Murphy easily makes it to the general election ballot for the Bellingham City Council at-large position with more than 50 percent of the vote.

Bob Burr and Allen Brown are in a tight race to face off against Murphy.

They are separated by just 94 votes with Burr slightly ahead 25 to 24 percent.

The top two for the Bellingham School Board are Steven Smith leading with 53 percent and John Blethen with 28 percent.

Hue Beattie trails with just under 18 percent. Charlie Hawkins and Brian Thomasson both advance in the Blaine City Council ward two race.

David Gallion trails with just under 15 percent.

The Whatcom County Auditor’s office reports a nearly 19 percent voter turnout, with about 12,400 ballots counted as of yesterday evening.

Six hundred ballots remain to be counted.
