Puget Sound Energy has the green light to raise rates for electricity and gas, but an environmental group says it will be a good move in the long run.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission ruled that PSE can base its rate hikes on its actual expenses and not on how much power it sells.
Attorney Amanda Goodin with Earthjustice says this means PSE can focus more on energy efficiency.
Goodin worked with PSE, the Northwest Energy Coalition and the Natural Resources Defense Council to come up with the plan approved on Wednesday.
The ruling also allows PSE to spend more money helping low-income families with weatherization and paying their power bills.
