BELLINGHAM, Wash. — There’s a new face in politics running for the at-large Bellingham City Council seat.

Allen Brown is a retired fire captain and paramedic.

He serves on the Medical Reserve Corps of Whatcom County.

Brown says he may be new to politics but not to the budget challenges faced by the city council.

Brown is not accepting any donations or advertising.

He says he wants to serve on the city council knowing he isn’t beholden to anyone, but the people of Bellingham.

He will compete with Roxanne Murphy and Bob Burr in an August primary for Seth Fleetwood’s at-large seat.

Fleetwood has decided not to run for reelection.
