WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The statewide “Click it or Ticket” emphasis patrols seem to be working at getting more drivers to wear their seatbelt, but not to put down their cell phone.
Whatcom County Target Zero Manager, David Wright says it’s still a lot easier to catch people not wearing their seatbelt than it is to catch them texting or talking without a hands-free device.
Seatbelt violations fell statewide.
Officers wrote about 800 less tickets than the 3,100 issued last year.
Officers wrote almost 500 more tickets to people holding a cell phone to their ear or texting than the 1,500 issued last year.
