OLYMPIA, Wash – After ending the 30 day special session yesterday evening, the Washington Legislature will begin another special session today.
Governor Jay Inslee says he’ll shut down the state government unless the House and Senate can come to terms on a budget by June 30th.
Inslee blames the GOP-led Senate for the impasse, saying it’s refused to make concessions after the Democratic-led House agreed to drop its push for more than half of the $1.3 billion in revenue it was seeking.
Senate Majority Leader Rodney Tom of Medina dismisses talk of a shutdown, saying both sides will work hard to reach a budget compromise.
