Sedin twins re-sign with Canucks

Vancouver,  BC  (SportsNetwork.com) – The Vancouver Canucks re-signed forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin to matching four-year contract extensions Friday.

Financial  terms  of the new  contracts were  not released, but multiple media reports  valued  each at $28  million. The  Sedins are in  the final year of a five-year, $30.5 million deal they signed ahead of the 2009-10 season. The  deal will keep the 33-year-old Swedish twins in Vancouver through the end of the 2017-18 season.

“Daniel  and Henrik  are exemplary  leaders, teammates  and humanitarians  and we’re  very pleased  to have  them as  part of  our team  for the  long-term,” Canucks  general  manager Michael Gillis said  in a statement. “Few players in the  history  of this club have  had more significant roles in contributing to the success of this team and to our community and we look forward to many more years with their positive influence leading the way.”

Henrik, the captain of the Canucks, currently holds franchise records for most points  (792),  assists (610),  plus/minus  (plus-200)  and consecutive  games played  (629). He  ranks second in franchise history in games played (940) and third in game-winning goals (33).

Daniel  is second in  franchise history in scoring with 773 points. He has 297 goals and 476 assists in 921 career games.

The  Sedins  have spent their entire  NHL careers with the Canucks after being drafted  by  Vancouver in  1999. Daniel was  selected with the  No. 2 pick and Henrik was selected with the No. 3 pick.
