Sehome sweeps 2A Cross Country championships

The Sehome Mariners boys and girls cross country squads won the 2A State Championship, Saturday at Sun Willows in Pasco.

The Sehome boys scored 102 points, 26 points better than second place Squalicum. Sehome was powered by four top 50 finishers, with Kirby Overman placing seventh. The Storm were lead by three top 50 finishers, with Chris Fredlund placing third.

The Sehome girls scored 31 points, 57 points better than second place Bellingham. Sehome was lead by seven top 50 finishers, including three top 10 finishers: Emily Pittis (second), Ellie Rowan-Arnett (third) and Ruby Watson (sixth). The Red Raiders were lead by five top 50 finishers, with Leah Veldhuisen placing 17th.

In 1A boys action, the Meridian Trojans finished third overall. Collin Magnusson paced the Trojans finishing in sixth place. Meridian had four top 50 finishers.

In 1A girls action, three Whatcom county high schools finished in the top 10: Mount Baker (fifth), Meridian (seventh) and Lynden Christian (eighth). Kelsie Nern lead the way for Mount Baker, who had one other top 50 runner. Meridian had three top 50 finishers, lead by Mimi Meggison. Lynden Christian also had three top 50 finishers, lead by Sarah Ball.
