BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A truck crash on Interstate 5 in south of Bellingham blocked traffic for two hours yesterday afternoon.

A box truck loaded with mattresses rolled onto its side around 2:00 p.m. blocking both lanes of northbound I-5 at Old Fairhaven Parkway.

Traffic was jammed on Samish Way as drivers were diverted around the crash.

The 20-year-old driver and his 24-year-old passenger are both from Kent.

They suffered some lacerations in the crash and were taken to PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Washington State Trooper Mark Francis says the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
